The logical thinking abilities of high school students in relation to their cognitive development stage

Logical thinking is an essential skill for students’ academic success, particularly in science and mathematics. This study seeks to examine high school students' logical thinking abilities in relation to their cognitive development stage, based on Piaget's theory of cognitive development. The research uses a non-experimental design in the form of a survey. The survey sample included 219 eleventh-grade high school students from Ketapang, West Borneo, selected using cluster random sampling as the sampling method. The survey data collection utilized a two-tier method developed by Tobin and Capie (1981). The result of this research is as much as 11.71% of student were in last formal stage, 22.93% of student were in first formal stage, 30,73% of students were in trantitional stage, and 34.63% of students were in concrete stage.
