Abstract
This study explores the language challenges and communication strategies experienced by Indonesian interns at Four Seasons at The Surf Club Miami. This study provides new insights into the intercultural adaptation of Indonesian hospitality students through the lens of Communication Accommodation Theory and Sociocultural Learning. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research investigates the linguistic barriers, cultural differences, and adaptive strategies employed by 30 participants in an international work environment. The key findings revealed that the primary obstacles faced included limited English proficiency, unfamiliar accents, and cultural communication norms. To overcome these challenges, students employed various strategies, such as increased use of English in daily interactions, assistance from translation tools, and confidence building through social engagement. This study implies that adaptability and strong interpersonal communication skills are essential for student success in global hospitality settings. It also provides recommendations for educational institutions to better prepare their students for cross-cultural professional experiences.
