In the era of digital education, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of language education has gradually deepened. Especially in English writing teaching, AI technology has become an important tool to improve teaching quality and classroom efficiency. This paper uses case analysis and comparative experimental methods to analyze the similarities and differences between manual teaching design and teaching design assisted by ChatGPT, and explores the auxiliary role of text-generating AI such as ChatGPT in English writing teaching. The research results show that AI technologies such as ChatGPT have significant advantages in inspiring teachers’ teaching design ideas, providing real-time writing guidance, and giving effective feedback, helping teachers complete education and teaching. However, it also has limitations such as excessive dependence and lack of accuracy. Based on this, this article makes the following suggestions. Teachers need to guide students to use AI tools reasonably, cultivate students’ critical thinking, and combine traditional writing teaching.
