Abstract
This essay examines current studies on how meditation affects working memory. It has been demonstrated that meditation, especially mindfulness and Hatha yoga, improves executive function, working memory capacity, and attention control. Both short-term and long-term meditation techniques have been shown to increase neural connections, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, improve emotional regulation, and lessen mind- wandering. These modifications help people perform better cognitively in both lab and real-world situations. Some studies lack rigorous experimental designs and have limited sample sizes, despite encouraging results. By increasing sample variety and using cutting-edge neuroimaging techniques to investigate the underlying brain mechanisms, future studies should overcome these constraints.
