Higher education as one of the factors that influence regional performance

The author considered it necessary to carry out a global comparative study on the contribution of higher education to the regional performance opinion, due to some controversial facts in the socio-economic reality of the Latvian higher education area. Despite the fact that financial investment into higher education produces high quantitative indicators of population's involvement into higher education, the efficiency of this highly educated and skilled labour force in Latvia is relatively low.
