In recent years, the operation of sports events is undergoing a digital transformation from the traditional offline mode to the integration of “online and offline”. With the breakthrough of digital technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and augmented reality (XR), online operation of sports events has not only become the core means to expand user coverage but also reconstructed the whole value chain of user participation, consumption and interaction. Behind this transformation, the role of digital technology is becoming more and more critical. It not only breaks the time and space restrictions of physical events but also shapes a more attractive sports culture ecology through data-driven and scene innovation. This paper explores the online operation mode of the King Pro League (KPL) by case analysis and finds that online operation not only provides convenience and entertainment, but also brings challenges to the audience, such as distraction, excessive consumption and lack of real-world experience. These findings provide valuable insights for sports event organizers, game developers and users, and guide the future improvement of online sports events.
