Abstract
The debate over state ideology and religious-based politics in Indonesia continues to attract scholarly attention, particularly in relation to the younger generation’s ideological orientation. This study seeks to describe and explain the ideological attitudes of Muslim students at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), focusing on their perspectives toward Pancasila as the state ideology and the idea of establishing an Islamic state in Indonesia. Employing a survey method with purposive random sampling, the research involved students who had completed courses in Pancasila Education and Civic Education. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring students’ ideological attitudes. The findings reveal that Muslim students at Undiksha exhibit a predominantly positive orientation toward Pancasila, with an average score of 3.44 (equivalent to 68.83 on a 100-point scale), indicating a generally pro-Pancasila stance. Conversely, their level of support for the formation of an Islamic state is relatively low, reflected in an average score of 2.12 (42.48 on a 100-point scale). These results suggest that support for Pancasila significantly outweighs support for an Islamic state ideology. The study concludes that Muslim students at Undiksha tend to uphold Pancasila as a unifying foundation for the Indonesian nation, reflecting a broader trend of ideological moderation among educated youth. The implication of this research underscores the importance of strengthening civic and ideological education in higher education to foster inclusive nationalism and prevent the growth of exclusivist ideologies.
