The Impact of Quality-oriented Education versus Examination-oriented Education on Chinese Pre-college Students’ English Capability

With the development of increasing globalization, as a globally common language, English abilities has been attached with vital importance. This paper provides a detailed evaluation of the methods and effects of Examination-oriented education (EOE) in China. Mainland China has been implementing EOE for pre-college students for a very long time and it has multiple flaws which lead to plenty of social issues, and there seems to be a tendency that can not meet the demand of promoting English abilities. This paper explores the fundament of the establishment of EOE in multiple aspects including its targets and teachers’ quality and pros and cons of Quality-oriented education (QOE). This paper is targeted to speculate on possible educational reforms of English subject in the future and to explore the feasibility. This study concludes that implementing QOE yet faces massive challenges. Quality-oriented education brings great hope for English education in the future, at the same time, it is also of vital importance to continue to follow up the research on the actual education situation and research on advanced education concepts to overcome possible and potential difficulties. Further research should explore the practical methods of implementing QOE.
