Abstract
Although the differences between American and Chinese higher education have attracted wide attention, there remain shortcomings in addressing key dimensions such as philosophy of learning, pedagogy, academic pressure, and career focus. This paper analyzes the contrasting approaches by comparing China’s emphasis on standardized tests, theoretical learning, and collective performance with America’s focus on individual autonomy, critical thinking, and hands-on learning. Based on this, the paper proposes that China enhance its higher education by incorporating interactive learning, curriculum flexibility, and expanded internship opportunities to balance its robust academic foundation with creative, practice-based methods, thereby boosting global competitiveness.
