Abstract
Formal and conceptual organisation of dictionary entries: the emergence of the third codification model in Larousse dictionaries. This study is the third in a set tracing the history of codification methods used since 1856 in Larousse dictionaries to distinguish, order and organise the information presented in their entries. The period covered here is that of the first use, in innovative dictionaries from 1960 onwards, of alphanumeric symbols, whose use then became widespread in the publisher’s dictionaries and which are now considered to be the “normal” way of codifying entries.
