Self-identity of International Students in a Cross-cultural and its Impact on Mental Health

Abstract
The issue of identity confusion among international students has garnered increasing academic attention, but there remains a lack of in-depth understanding of how specific external and internal factors influence identity formation and its impact on mental health. This study explores how cultural, educational, and psychological factors interact to contribute to identity confusion and analyses its behavioural and emotional manifestations. Drawing on theories of identity dislocation, self-construction, and bicultural identity integration, the research finds that students often experience internal conflicts in cross-cultural contexts, leading to mental health issues. Further analysis indicates that classroom norms, peer interactions, and personal identity perception patterns play a crucial role in exacerbating or alleviating such challenges. This study proposes strategies such as cross-cultural training for teachers, providing cultural platforms, and offering psychological support to create an inclusive environment conducive to the identity development of international students.
