Life is the basis of all material human activities and a prerequisite for the development of human society. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasised at the National Education Conference in 2018 that the concept of health-first education should be established, and that party committees and governments at all levels should also underpin the safety of school operations and protect the lives of students. At present, the vast majority of university students in China have a scientific awareness of life, a positive attitude towards life and a high level of life satisfaction, but with the continuous development of the market economy and the satisfaction of material resources, some students also have a weak sense of responsibility for life and diluted ideals and beliefs, which have seriously affected the life safety and value realization of our university students. Therefore, in the face of the current situation, how to enhance the effectiveness of life values education for university students is a realistic question that must be answered. Based on the development requirements of the new era, this paper examines the development requirements under the new era and the new needs of society for student education in the new era.
