Nominalisations without verbal base suffixed with -ion, -age and -ment in French: morphological conditions. This article aims to study the conditions that allow the formation of French nominalizations suffixed with -age, -ment and -ion which seem to be formed directly on nominal bases. The study has two objectives: (i) to show that French nominalizations without a verbal base do not only concern the -ion suffixations already identified in the literature, but also the -age and -ment suffixations; (ii) to show that these nominalizations meet specific conditions: they must be part of morphological families of XN/Adj - XV- XV-ion/-age/-mentN triplets, that are distinguished by a high frequency of occurrence in the corpus. The research is conducted on a very large corpus (frCOW), allowing for a database large enough to use meaningful quantitative measures.
