This paper discusses the possibility and effect of combining pop music with traditional classical music in piano education. Through literature review, current situation analysis, experimental research and case analysis, the research finds that the combination of pop music and traditional classical music teaching methods can significantly improve students’ learning interest and motivation, and enhance the activeness of the classroom atmosphere. The students in the experimental group made remarkable progress in technical level, music understanding and emotional expression, especially in improvisation and music creation. In addition, this combined teaching method can better meet the individual needs of students and promote the all-round development of their music literacy. However, the implementation process also faces some challenges, such as limited teaching materials and insufficient teacher training. Future research could further explore the long-term effects of combined teaching methods, their application across age groups, and their applicability in cross-cultural contexts. The results of this study not only have important theoretical significance, but also provide practical application value for the innovative development of piano education, help to improve the teaching quality and effect, and promote the all-round development of students.
