Interroger le rapport oral/écrit à l’école : une expérimentation en cycle 3

Résumé

Comme les programmes de l’école primaire (M.E.N. 2015 révisé en 2018) nous y invitent, notre étude interroge les relations entre l’oral et l’écrit. Elle se fonde sur une expérimentation menée dans une classe de cycle 3, plus précisément de CM2 (élèves de 10 à 11 ans). Après avoir écouté un extrait d’une interview radiophonique, les élèves observés devaient analyser la transcription écrite de cet oral et la réécrire afin qu’elle respecte les normes de l’écrit. Nous demandant comment des élèves de fin d’école primaire appréhendent les différences entre oral et écrit, nous examinons, dans un premier temps, les représentations de l’oral et de l’écrit qui émanent de leurs deux écrits de travail (au sens d’écrits réflexifs), puis, dans un second temps, les caractéristiques de l’écrit qu’ils ont produit à partir de la transcription de l’oral radiophonique (et ce, en nous appuyant sur les opérations de réécriture mises en exergue par Fabre-Cols : les suppressions, les remplacements et les ajouts). Nous montrons qu’au cours de la séquence didactique, les élèves ont témoigné de réelles connaissances quant aux tendances à l’oeuvre dans les deux modalités de communication, alors qu’ils n’avaient pas bénéficié à cet égard d’un enseignement explicite, si ce n’est sur quelques aspects tels que la ponctuation.

Resumen

The relationship between spoken and written French among pupils at the end of primary school. Following the primary school curricula (M.E.N. 2015 revised in 2018), our article investigates the relationship between spoken and written French. It is based on an experiment carried out in a cycle 3 class, more precisely in CM2 (pupils from 10 to 11 years old). After listening to an excerpt from a radio interview, the students observed had to analyse the written transcription of this oral excerpt and rewrite it so as to meet written standards. In order to see how pupils at the end of primary school understand the differences between spoken and written French, we first examined the representations of speech and writing in their two intermediary texts, then, secondly, the characteristics of the text that they had produced out of the transcription of the radiophonic oral (on the basis of the rewriting operations highlighted by Fabre-Cols: deletions, replacements and additions). It appeared that during the didactic sequence, the pupils showed real knowledge of the tendencies at work in the two modes of communication, although they had not benefited from explicit teaching, except for a few aspects such as punctuation.
